Using the Sites To make use of this facility, you must be a resident of the City and County of Swansea, and be recycling or disposing of your own household waste. The items we routinely recycle include paper, cans, glass, cardboard, textiles and scrap metals as well as other items. Height restrictions are in place at the Tir John, Clyne, Penlan and Garngoch sites. These limit the height of vehicles able to use the sites to under 2.00m. No vehicles that exceed this clearance will be able to obtain access to the Civic Amenity Sites. It is hoped this will deter businesses misusing the facilities and encourage them to use proper trade waste provisions instead. Make your efforts count by placing things in the proper containers. When you save your recyclable materials to take to one of the many recycling points across the county make sure you put all the materials into the proper containers. We do our utmost to make sure all the containers are emptied regularly but if any of them are full please take the material away and return on another day. If you leave bags of recyclable materials on the ground around the banks or on top of banks it will be collected by our cleansing crews and end up in landfill.
We now collect plastic at all 5 of our Community Recycling Sites We can accept the following plastic items Plastic bottles e.g. water bottles, pop bottles, shampoo bottles, fabric conditioner bottles. Car Batteries Unfortunately due to a spate of break ins and thefts of car batteries this service is being temporarily withdrawn from the sites at Penlan and Clyne. Car batteries can still be taken to the site in Llansamlet where there is 24 hour security. We apologise for any inconvenience. DIY projects at home? Most of us undertake small DIY projects at home at some point or another with varying degrees of success! But once you have changed that door or ripped out the sink you are left wondering what to do with the waste. Community Recycling Sites across the county are meant for the free disposal of domestic waste and this does not include building waste or fixtures and fittings, this includes things like plasterboard, plastic windows and doors, soil and rubble. If you need to dispose of these sorts of materials you can take them directly to the Baling Plant where you will be asked to take them over the weighbridge and pay for disposal. If in doubt, call the site first and give an accurate description of the type and amount of waste you are talking about. You can contact the Baling Plant on 01792 796886. Please check the list of all the sites on these pages for a comprehensive list of materials accepted at them. If a builder does the work he should either include the cost of a skip in the quote or take away the waste with him when he's finished. Please make sure he is a reputable builder and has the necessary licence to carry and dispose of this type of waste. If he is reputable, he won't mind showing you. If you have certain items like doors, radiators, sinks, taps etc that are in good condition why not try swapping them or giving them away on the swap shop at www.swansea.gov.uk/swapshop.
