Among the provisions contained in the new law is a requirement for businesses to take all reasonable steps to ensure that staff are able to maintain the two-metre physical distancing measure for staff and customers.

And the Welsh Government said enforcement action could be taken against serious or serial breaches using established licensing laws, including suspending or revoking licences.

The public are being advised to report any businesses breaching the health regulations to their local authority by emailing Evh.licensing@swansea.gov.uk

Issues of the public not observing the social distancing rules, will continue to be dealt with by the police.

Mark Thomas, Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure at Swansea Council, said:  "Although businesses in particular have been hard hit by the uncertainty brought by the Coronavirus outbreak, the overwhelming majority have readily complied with the new health regulations intended to keep us all safe and well.

"If any firms feel unclear about any aspect of the regulations, I'd urge them to visit our website for more information because ignorance is no defence for flouting the new duties."

He said: "Where a member of the public has concerns that workplace social distancing is not being applied, they should raise their concerns by emailing Evh.licensing@swansea.gov.uk

"Employees who have concerns in relation to their workplace should initially raise these with their employer and if not addressed, with their trade union or the council."

Under the Welsh Government regulations staff who are currently in a business workplace must be protected using the 2m distancing rules. If they have concerns they should speak to their employer first. If they remain concerned, they should contact the council for more advice.
